The Lamar University Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biochemistry program will prepare you to explore the processes of life at the molecular level. In your study of biochemistry, you will examine how cell components work together and communicate with each other, giving you strong foundations in disciplines such as genetics, forensics, microbiology, plant science and medicine.

Lamar University's Chemistry and Biochemistry Department has active research programs in several areas including environmental chemistry biochemistry, surface chemistry, computational chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, transition metal coordination chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and organic reaction mechanisms. As an undergraduate student, you'll be able to take advantage of these programs to strengthen your education.

Courses You May Take

Biochemistry: This course structures chemistry and functions of biological compounds. It includes a survey of the detailed structures, chemistry and functions of the various classes of biologically important compounds.

Genetics: You'll learn about the general principles of heredity, including human inheritance.

Microbiology: In this class, you'll study microorganisms with emphasis on those of medical significance and problems of personal and community health.
