This programme is offered by Department of Social Work, Hong Kong Baptist University for holders of Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD) in the social-sciences-related disciplines who wish to continue on to a Bachelor’s degree in social policy.

Department of Social Work of Hong Kong Baptist University is one of the fore-runners in providing social work training and education in Hong Kong since the it's foundation in 1956. The Department is committed to providing high quality education and training in social work and in related disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Programme Features

• A non-government-funded honours undergraduate programme.
• A full-time programme which is normally completed in two years.
• Develop students’ understanding and ability to participate in the making and evaluation of social policies in local, regional and international contexts.
• Sharpen students’ awareness of issues in social injustice and inequality, as well as the challenges in the contemporary society.
• Develop students’ understanding of diverse social needs and the significance of social developments and the ability to integrate the theories of social policy, leadership and organisations into the public sector as well as the third sector, or non-profit-making organisations.

Career Prospects

The programme will provide graduates with training in preparation for careers in a wide range of areas, for example: social services, politics, research and social planning. With an increasing demand for professional personnel with a strong background in policy studies in the Greater China Region, graduates can occupy mid-level administrative and managerial posts in various public, quasi-public and non-government organisations.

Programme Structure

The four-year undergraduate programme requires students to complete a total of 128 units, including 66 units of Major Courses (with a 3-unit General Education Capstone course listed under the Category of Major Core Courses), 13 units of University Core Courses, 15 units of General Education Courses and 34 units of Free Elective Courses. Students with Associate Degree or Higher Diploma qualifications will normally be admitted directly into the third year of study to complete the programme in two years.

Specifically, students are required to complete 57 units of Major Core Courses and 9 units of Policy Specialization Electives.
