专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Foundation Year in Science is offered as an entry route to a biology, biomedical sciences, environmental or public health degree for students who don't yet meet the entry requirements for degree-level study. You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly to one of our three-year degree courses in this subject area. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high and in fact have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

Overview

Covering everything from public health and food safety to environmental protection, private sector housing improvement and occupational health and safety, our environmental health degree equips you with everything you need to enter a wide variety of careers.

The only fully-accredited environmental health degree in London, our BSc Environmental Health gives you the knowledge, certifications and skills to confidently enter into a career as an environmental health officer across all sectors.

You’ll explore the relationship between professional, domestic and leisure environments, build your understanding of their impact and learn the skills to assess and improve environmental health in a variety of settings.

What will you gain?

As well as gaining an in-depth knowledge of the subject, you will also gain the ability to investigate environmental health issues in a range of contexts and apply your knowledge of environmental health stressors to solve complex problems. You will be able to interpret data and design novel solutions to environmental health issues, as well as performing practical food inspections. You will gain effective communication and leadership in Environmental Health settings and develop academic research strategies and critical writing.

Assessment

You be assessed through written and oral exams and tests, coursework, essays, premises audits, hazard assessments and laboratory reports. Presentations, case study reports and data analysis exercises will also form part of the assessment process. In your final year, you will produce a portfolio of work showing effective environmental health interventions, sit professional practice assessments and undertake a dissertation.

Careers

Completion of this degree and subsequent completion of the CIEH Learning Portfolio and Professional Interview will enable you to gain a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) and be qualified as an Environmental Health Officer.

Previous graduates have had achieved success in the following career options:

• Environmental Health Officer in Local Authorities
• Environmental Health Professional in the Private Sector e.g. travel companies, hotel chains, supermarkets, caterers or consultancy
• Working for government agencies such as Public Health England
• Working within non-governmental organisations
