Why study dance practices with us
The course is specifically created to help draw out your passions and interests across the field of dance within the arts and creative industries. This may be dance science, dance education, choreography, dance writing, and so many more. You'll gain an in-depth knowledge of dance practice alongside transferable skills that will allow you to pursue diverse career avenues in the creative fields. It’s a highly individual course with the freedom to tailor the final year’s contents to your interests, strengths, and passions.
The course offers two distinct exit awards in Choreography and Dance Science.
We give you the opportunity to explore specialist subjects to study in-depth while facilitating collaborative opportunities with students from related courses.
How is the BA Dance Practices taught?
The course involves daily practical work, delivered online and on campus and taught by highly experienced professional artists, academics and technical support teams. You will explore, investigate and interrogate a range of dance related practical and theoretical problems through a variety of modes. You will have the choice in your third year to maintain a broad portfolio of experience or, if preferred, focus your pathway toward specific exit awards. You will immerse yourself in a supported environment learning with and from each other.
Assessment
We’re planning to deliver our assessment in a similar way to previous years. We will review this regularly, and let you know in advance of your assessment if we need to make any changes.
We use a diverse range of assessments, such as practical assessments of technical dance classes, performances, choreography, evaluative writing, essays, reflective journal, case studies, short critical reviews, oral presentations, and presentation of project outcomes via digital formats. Assessments may also involve self, peer or group approaches. This range of assessment strategies embraces diverse learning abilities, helping to empower you for your future continued development.
