Our program centers on the basic principles and phenomena of molecules. Here, you'll get plenty of one-on-one time with your professors in Longwood's small classes and professional labs. Our graduates go on to tackle and solve problems in industrial and governmental laboratories, non-profit organizations, the healthcare sector and academia.

Explore the scientific habit of problem -solving through experimentation, accurate observation, independent thought and cooperative learning in one of our two concentrations:

General Chemistry Concentration

You'll take at least one chemistry course each semester covering general, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. A solid foundation in chemistry is not complete without courses in physics and mathematics. You'll work closely with your adviser to choose advanced elective courses that really interest you!

CHEMISTRY, TEACHER PREPARATION

Get the problem solving and instructional skills to teach chemistry in Virginia's public schools by obtaining a secondary teaching endorsement (6-12). In addition to a solid foundation in chemistry, you will also learn specific teaching techniques to make you a great teacher.
