The BALAS in Germanic Studies serves to develop competence in German or Scandinavian languages and cultures. Students will gain familiarity with the structure of the language and its use in the context of business, contemporary culture, intellectual history, literature, and science. Students must select one concentration in consultation with an adviser:

为来自中国的学生设计 Students should complete their high school courses strong grades in these courses. English: 4 years required; Math: 3 or 3.5 years required, 4 years recommended; Social sciences: 2 years required, 4 years recommended; Lab sciences: 2 years required, 4 years recommended; Language other than English: 2 years required, 4 years recommended; Flexible academic units: 2 years required, 4+ years recommended. English language Requirements: International undergraduate students whose total TOEFL scores are 102 (TOEFL iBT) or below (*total IELTS score of 7.0 or below) are required to take the EPT. To be exempt from EPT, students must score either on TOEFL iBT: total 103 or above, and 25 or above on both speaking & writing; or on IELTS: 7.5 or above total, and 7 or above on both speaking and writing.
