专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Bachelor of Design Studies (BDS) is a 4-year degree program that develops designers able to achieve professional success through in-depth investigation, critical analysis, and creative inquiry. You may focus your study with a major in either Sustainable Building Technology or Computational Design.

Studio, drawing, and digital media courses build core skills in design and communication. Courses in design history, art, humanities, and science engage the whole person. Open electives give you the opportunity to explore your own interests.

Graduates are multidisciplinary thinkers prepared to assume responsibilities across a wide spectrum of career opportunities. Our graduates are putting their education to work in firms focused on building design, sustainability, construction project management, and graphic technology. Others work in nonprofits and a number of our entrepreneurial graduates have started their own companies.

Computational Design Curriculum

Computational Design students learn to use digital technology in the design process. They have the opportunity to study and become proficient in:

• Building information modeling
• Design visualization and rendering
• Environmental simulation
• Geometric modeling
• Algorithmic design
• Digital fabrication
• Virtual reality
• Generative design systems.

But Computational Design students go beyond learning software. The curriculum emphasizes innovative problem solving within an interdisciplinary environment. Students examine the cultural and creative implications of using computers in the design of the built environment and the generation of spatial forms. They are asked to explore how the computer applications they use can significantly influence and enhance their ability to develop novel digital processes to achieve innovative designs solutions.

Sustainable Building Technology Curriculum

Building sustainably is no longer an option but a necessity. Increasing population across the globe demands that the design and construction industry deliver more efficient buildings that consume less of the earth's resources.

Sustainable Building Technology students learn the basic principles of structural and mechanical systems, building codes and regulations, material assemblies and construction methods all with the objective of achieving high performance buildings that meet today's needs without compromising those of the future. Students are exposed to an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to "green" buildings. The curriculum stresses design resilience, natural resource conservation, and sustainable design and building practices. This course of study prepares students with the practical skills needed to succeed in their career path.

为来自中国的学生设计 International students who hold a US high school diploma or the equivalency of a US high school diploma (completion of secondary education). English proficiency score: TOEFL score of 79, IELTS minimum band score of 6.5, PTE score of 53, or a Cambridge English Scale score of 176-184.
