I believe education needs to get back to the basics of teaching, meaning teachers should focus on students mastering basic literary and computational skills.  Children need a good foundation of knowledge on which to build future acquired knowledge.  Knowing these basics skills helps in the progression of learning when students reach higher grade levels.
